Pantone has officially revealed the color of the year. The New Jersey-based company has announced that Viva Magenta 18-1750 is the hue of choice for 2023.
Pantone describes Viva Magenta as “powerful and empowering.” The company is considered an authority on color. Its Pantone Matching System (PMS) is valued in a variety of industries, such as graphic design, printing, and fashion, as a useful proprietary color space.
An accompanying exhibition is being held in Miami to celebrate Viva Magenta as the color of the year.
What is Viva Magenta 18-1750: 2023 color of the year?
Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, has described Viva Magenta as “invoking the forces of nature.”
Eiseman said, “In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.”
She described the color as “rooted in the primordial” and said that “Viva Magenta galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”
Pantone described Viva Magenta as “a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement.”
Usage
Pantone’s announcement is likely to spark enthusiasm for the use of Viva Magenta in a variety of settings. Pantone has collaborated with some brands on developing several products in the color.
The fashion world already seems to be keen on the shade. Fashion giants like Versace, Alexander McQueen, and Dior have been spotted using similar hues of hot pink at recent fashion shows.
Deepa Gurnani, the India-based brand, is set to collaborate with Pantone in producing jewelry in the color of Viva Magenta. Similarly, the Brazilian shoe brand Cariuma has released footwear in the same shade.
Motorola has announced that it will be releasing its Edge 30 Fusion mobile phone in Viva Magenta 18-1750. The new magenta-colored mobile will become available in the US on December 12th.
Exhibition
Those wanting to fully immerse themselves in Pantone’s color of the year can visit its exhibition in Miami. The immersive experience is being held at the Artechouse Miami Beach venue until spring of next year.
The exhibition has been dubbed the Magentaverse, and Artechouse says that visitors are invited to “explore the boundless sights, sounds, feelings and inspirations of the Pantone Color of the Year 2023.”
Pantone and Artechouse have said that the immersive experience will enable visitors to “explore the virtual within the physical realm to examine the connections between nature and technology.”
Guests at the exhibition can look forward to an “unexpected and exciting color universe” with Viva Magenta as the central theme.
