Far-right leader Giorgia Meloni was sworn in as Italy’s first female prime minister and named her Cabinet on Saturday morning following her victory in the elections in September.
The new PM took her oath before the President of the Republic and the secretary general of the Quirinale followed by the twenty-four ministers she appointed as Cabinet members.

Following the ceremony, Giorgia Meloni posted an official photograph of the new Cabinet on her Twitter account.
She captioned the image: “Here is the government team that, with pride and a sense of responsibility, will serve Italy. Now everybody straight to work.”

Meloni’s right-wing alliance, which also includes Matteo Salvini’s far-right League and former PM Silvio Berlusconi’s center-right Forza Italia, secured control of both the Italian Senate and the Chamber of Deputies with a breakthrough forty-two percent win on September 25th.
Although widely expected to form Italy’s most right-wing government since WWII, Meloni had pledged during her post-win speech that her party would “govern for everyone” and would not betray people’s trust.
Today, far-right leader Salvini was named Deputy PM and Minister of Infrastructure while Antonio Tajani, a former journalist and EU Commissioner, will also serve as Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Alfredo Mantovano was appointed Secretary of the Council of Ministers.
Giancarlo Giorgetti, who is considered “moderate and relatively pro-European,” as per Reuters, takes office as Minister of Economy and Finance.
Matteo Piantedosi is Italy’s new Minister of the Interior; Carlo Nordio has been appointed as Minister of Justice, and Guido Crosetto is Minister of Defense.
