Greek health officials announced 346 new cases of the coronavirus in the country on Tuesday, along with eight deaths in those who had succumbed with the virus.
This is a slight decrease after Monday’s record 453 cases.
Of the 346 cases, 23 are linked to known outbreaks, while 25 were recorded at Greece’s points of entry after tests were conducted on visitors to the country.
Since the start of the pandemic in Greece, there have been a total of 15,928 Covid-19 cases in the country, including all those who have recovered. Of the total cases, just 2,651 have been linked to travel outside of Greece, and 6,687 resulted from contact with another confirmed case of the virus.
Tragically, a total of 352 people have lost their lives to the virus in Greece, 221 of whom were men. The median age of those who have passed away is 78, and 96.9% of them were over the age of 78 or suffered from underlying health problems.
Currently, 77 patients are intubated in Greek hospitals. The median age of these patients is 69, and 88.3% of them are over the age of 70 or have underlying health issues. Just 21 of them are female.
In related news, Greece announced on Tuesday that police patrol cars are now using loudspeakers to broadcast a reminder to people that public gatherings of more than nine people are not allowed.
The message urges citizens to protect public health by avoiding crowding in parks, and also warns that violating this measure carries a 150-euro fine.
These messages will be broadcast through October 4, unless that time is extended further.
