Greece’s National Heath Organization, EODY, announced on Monday that a total of 77 new cases of the coronavirus were diagnosed in the country in the last 24 hours. Only eight of these were found in those coming into the country from abroad.
There were two coronavirus-related deaths occurring over the last day as well, according to the EODY press release.
The total number of those in Greece who have contracted the coronavirus, including all those who have recovered from it, has now risen to 4,737. The number of those who have died with the virus has now reached 210 nationwide.
Currently there are thirteen individuals who are on ventilators in intensive care units throughout the country. A total of 128 individuals have been successfully discharged from ICU’s since the beginning of the outbreak.
As a result of an increasing number of coronavirus infections detected around the country, Greece’s Deputy Development Minister Nikos Papathanasis warned on Monday that restaurants and cafes may be instructed to curtail their hours to help prevent the virus’ further spread.
Papathanasis warned in an interview with the private channel Skai television that Greek authorities could impose “regional interventions or lockdowns” if the virus continues to spread — but he did not mention the possibility of a general lockdown like the country experienced in the Spring.
The Deputy Minister did however, state that “there is a possibility of restricting the operation of businesses, for example by closing earlier,” as a way to limit the public’s exposure to the contagion.
