President Donald Trump said Monday that he is considering dismissing U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle amid allegations of misconduct that have prompted an investigation by the State Department’s inspector general.
“We’re looking at it,” Trump said when asked whether he was considering removing Guilfoyle from her post.
“We’re not happy,” he added.
The remarks marked a change in tone from Friday, when Trump said he had limited knowledge of the allegations.
“I just heard a little bit about it. I don’t know too much, but she was always very nice,” he said.
State Department Investigates Ambassador to Greece
Guilfoyle, who has served as ambassador to Greece since 2025, and the U.S. Embassy in Athens are under investigation by the State Department’s Office of Inspector General, according to two people familiar with the matter cited by NBC News.
The investigation follows a series of Wall Street Journal reports alleging improper conduct by Guilfoyle, including claims that she accepted luxury travel arrangements financed by Greek business executives.
The allegations also include claims by Trump donor Eric Deters that Guilfoyle asked him to pay a $100,000 American Express bill shortly before her Senate confirmation hearing in 2025, allegedly offering access to senior administration officials in return.
“She was so desperate for that $100,000. It was a quid pro quo,” Deters told NBC News.
“She said I could ask her for anything and everything in Trump world. There was no request too big,” he added.
Deters said he did not make the payment.
Guilfoyle’s Attorneys Deny Wrongdoing
Guilfoyle’s attorneys, David Schwartz and Jesse Binnall, rejected the allegations, maintaining that Deters owed her the money for speaking engagements conducted before her ambassadorial nomination. Deters disputes that account.
The attorneys also denied any misconduct involving private aircraft travel, saying Guilfoyle had obtained and followed State Department guidance and complied with departmental travel regulations.
