A Greek-Australian is facing a stiff fine for breaking the coronavirus lockdown by driving from his home to the other side of Melbourne to buy Greek groceries and food.
The shopper drove 30 minutes from Frankston to Oakleigh, in Melbourne’s south-east, on Sunday to go to his favorite Greek supermarket.
The city has had stage three lockdown restrictions in place since July 8, meaning people are only allowed to leave their homes for food, medicine, exercise, study and work.
Confronted by a reporter outside the Greek supermarket, the man, who has not been named, said:
“No one is going to stop me from coming up here, there’s no one up here… I always come up here to do my shopping, I always do the Greek shopping because I’m Greek.”
