As a sign of their deep appreciation for their life-saving efforts this past Spring, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation will be paying a total 6.6 million euros ($7.5 million) to doctors and nurses working during the coronavirus pandemic.
The announcement came on Tuesday, with the Foundation elaborating that it would be providing financial support to all employees in ICUs and hospitals who put their lives on the line to provide patients excellent care amidst the difficult circumstances.
SNF Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos echoed these sentiments, giving his personal reasoning for the move by saying, “This gesture of appreciation, which will be distributed equally to all, is a genuine ‘thank you’ from all of us. It is the least we could do for all those who offer so much.”
The Foundation will provide the generous financial support in the form of an equal honorarium to more than 4,600 healthcare employees, including those who work in treatment clinics.
As Greece is slowly rolling out measures to return the country back to normalcy, the SNF will also be issuing a grant of more than 15.8 million euros ($17.9 million) to help renovate hospitals across Greece.
The funds will also be used in order to provide these facilities with more equipment, including beds, as well as to implement training programs for ICU staff.
Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos also expressed that the top priority of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation is to support all healthcare professionals and staff working on the front lines in the coronavirus era.
