The leaders of the European Union decided on Tuesday to agree with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s proposal to temporarily ban all travel by non-EU citizens to the continent of Europe for thirty days.
This comes as the latest attempt to limit the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus which has claimed thousands of lives worldwide so far.
Speaking to reporters in Brussels on Tuesday, von der Leyen said that her proposal “got a lot of support from the member states. It’s up to them now to implement, and they said they will immediately do that.”
The ban is expected to exclude UK citizens, who have already been advised by their government, however, not to travel abroad.
