The United States Department of Commerce renewed Greece’s exemption from US tariffs imposed on specific food products from the European UnionĀ on February 15.
The continued exemption includes Greek oil and other olive-related products, cheese, wines, and plum juice, the Greek Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Monday.
The Greek government continues its efforts to clear the tariffs on peaches, which were burdened with excessive import duties by the US Department of Commerce decision last October, according to the Ministry.
Greece has repeatedly stated that its agri-food sector has been disproportionately affected by the decision, and that measures are needed to mitigate the negative impact and to formulate a positive trade agenda with the US, the Ministry noted.
The World Trade Organization formally authorized the US to impose tariffs on up to $7.5 billion of imports of EU goods in October of 2019, after an arbitratorās decision on subsidies given to the European aircraft giant Airbus.
On Monday, Washington announced that it will raise the duty on imported European Union aircraft from 10 to 15 percent, effective March 18, 2020.
