Fireman Puts up Cross on Chapel Half-Burned by Athens Fires

Fireman Asterios Tsiourvas put a cross on a Mount Penteli chapel that was damaged by last Monday’s devastating East Attica fires.
The chapel is located on Mount Penteli, near the point that the first fire started and close to Lyreio Orphanage that was almost completely destroyed by the flames.
The firefighter posted pictures on Facebook and wrote about his action:
“After yesterday’s shift, over the place of the tragedy. A half-destroyed chapel on the hill next to Lyreio Orphanage. I decided to rebuild and put up again the symbol of our faith, on its top that overlooks Mati. To soothe the souls that are gone and soothe the hearts that have stayed. It’s the least act of homage.”
