Athens Fire Victim: 'I Saved my Child, But I Lost my Husband' (video)

“I saved my child, but I lost my husband,” said Flora Papaioannou, one of the hundreds of victims of the deadly East Attica fires.
The woman who is hospitalized at Thriasio Hospital with severe burn wounds, spoke on Alpha television, barely able to describe the horror in words.
The woman said that she was near Lyreio orphanage when her underage daughter called to tell her that their home is on fire. She said that her husband is a person with special needs and could not move him on her own.
She described the inferno in Mati and how two friends with cars tried to take them out of the fiery hell.
The woman said that there were seven people who got in the two cars and that she could barely breathe. Apparently she lost her senses and became conscious two days later in the ICU.
She said that she understood that her husband and their friends were dead, but her daughter and herself survived.
