Greek Center-Left Candidates Debate before Sunday's Elections

The 9 candidates for the leadership of the new center-left party, appeared in a televised debate on state TV, five days before the first round of elections.
The two-hour long debate took place just after the terrorist attack against the police guarding the PASOK headquarters.
All candidates condemned the attack and vowed that it would not affect the election process.
The contenders reiterated their positions on the economy, and the relationship the new party should have with conservative New Democracy and Leftist SYRIZA.
No major policy disagreements emerged, as all candidates pledged that the new party should pursue an independent path and not become supplementary to either ND or SYRIZA.
Disagreements revolved around the issue of the organizational structure of the new party.
PASOK leader Fofi Genimata, and leader of To Potami Stavros Theodorakis, want to retain their parliamentary groups after the formation of the new party. Most of the other candidates are in favour of a unified parliamentary group.
The elections will be held on Sunday and are open to all Greek citizens.
The 9 candidates are:
• Fofi Genimata, PASOK leader
• Giorgos Kaminis, Mayor of Athens
• Stavros Theodorakis, To Potami leader
• Yiannis Maniatis, PASOK MP and former minister
• Yiannis Ragousis, former PASOK minister
• Nikos Androulakis, PASOK MEP
• Apostolos Pontas, leader of the Union of Democratic National Reform movement (EDEM)
• Constantinos Gatsios, former dean of the Athens University of Economics and Business
• Dimitris Tziolis, entrepreneur
