Event in East Melbourne Commemorates the Greek-Australians of the Kokoda Track Campaign

This month in East Melbourne, veterans will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Kokoda Track campaign in which some 300 men of Greek origin served in Australia’s armed forces in order to prevent the Japanese capture of Port Moresby in 1942.

As the 75th anniversary of Kokoda approaches, Steve Kyritsis OAM, a Vietnam veteran who served with the 3rd Battalion Royal Australian Regiment, has published a book called “Greek Australians in the Australian Armed Forces: Kokoda” honoring those who fought and those who lost their lives fighting during the Kokoda Track campaign.

There will be a formal launching of the book at Queen’s Hall, Parliament House on Spring Street in East Melbourne on Friday, July 21 at 3:00 pm.

The 600-page book tells the story of the men through over two hundred photos of veterans, and other images of the war.
