Greek Supreme Court Rules Against Extradition of 8 Turkish Army Officers

Greece’s Supreme Court on Thursday ruled against the extradition to Turkey of the eight army officers who sought political asylum after the failed coup attempt in the neighboring country on July 15.
The eight men landed at the Alexandroupolis airport on an army helicopter the day after the coup and asked for asylum.
Ankara is insisting that the army men should be returned to Turkey as participants in the coup to overthrow the Recep Tayyip Erdogan government and they are branded as traitors at home.
However, the asylum seekers claimed that if they are returned to Turkey they will not receive a fair trial and they are likely to be tortured, as their families are already subjected to bad treatment in their home country.
The eight men were released after the court’s decision.
