Primary Teachers to Strike Over Scrapping 'All-day Program' on Sept 15

GREEKSCHOOLAccording to a statement by the Primary School Teachers’ Federation, a teachers’ strike on September 15 is in response to what the federation called the Education Ministry’s “dismantling” of Greece’s all-day educational program at primary schools.
The Education Ministry is set to close primary school programs that include school days starting at 8:10 a.m. and continue into afternoon hours, allowing students to stay at school and participate in various organized activities at the schools if their parents are not able to pick them up and they have no one available to look after their children.
The Primary School Teachers’ Federation has accused the Education Ministry of scrapping the extended hours program in order to save money to cover teacher shortages that are impacting the education sector in Greece.
