Threats to Prosecutors and Judges will Not Influence Noor 1 Drug Smuggling Trial, Prosecutors' Union Says

NOOR ONEAccording to a statement released on Monday from the union representing Greek judges and prosecutors, threats have been made towards prosecutor Maria Troupi, who is involved with the Noor 1 case, as two big, burly men threatened her mother recently.
The threats came only a few days following a parcel bomb that was delivered to the home of a judge — who is also involved with the Noor 1 trial — in Ymittos. No one was hurt as bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion of the parcel.
The union satiated that they will not cave to the threats against judges and prosecutors in the Noor 1 case.
“The unprecedented threats and unethical blackmail of prosecutors which are aimed at harming justice and by extension democracy will not overcome the vigor and morale of Greek prosecutors,” the statement said.
As of last week, a Piraeus prosecutor handed down a recommendation for a life sentence in the Noor 1 drug smuggling trial to five suspects involved.
The sentences in the Noor 1 case are expected to be handed down on Tuesday.
In 2014 the Noor 1 tanker was intercepted carrying 2.1 tons of heroin.
