Alexis Tsipras-Angela Merkel Have Brief Talks on Greek Issues

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the sidelines of the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul on Monday. Their talk lasted for 40 minutes and they are said to have discussed the refugee crisis and the economy. The Athens News Agency reports that optimism was expressed for a positive conclusion to the Eurogroup meeting to discuss the bailout review for Greece on Tuesday, May 24.
Earlier Tsipras met with his Portuguese counterpart Antonio Costa and Irish President Michael Higgins who he described as an “old friend of Greece” on his Twitter account.
The Greek PM is due to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday afternoon. Turkey is calling for a fairer share of the burden of dealing with refugees, said Erdogan.
