Violence erupted at the Idomeni migrant camp in the Greece-FYROM border as refugees caught and almost lynched a man who tried to rape a 7-year-old girl.
British newspaper Daily Mail has published some pictures and cites the photographer who said that refugees at the Idomeni camp apprehended a man who had attempted to rape a 7-year-old girl and took him to the town’s police station, while some tried to lynch him.
More than 10,000 refugees and migrants remain at the makeshift Idomeni camp in the hope that Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia will reopen its borders to those who want to cross to central and northern Europe. The refugees live under unhealthy conditions while Greek authorities try to persuade them to move to organized refugee hospitality camps across Greece.
Meanwhile, more violent fights took place among young refugees at impromptu camps at and around Piraeus Port. According to police, sources, clashes broke out during meal time for unknown reasons so far.
It is estimated that over 5,000 refugees are stranded at Piraeus Port. Some wait to be carried to refugee camps, while others refuse to move in the hope that people smugglers will help them cross the Greek border for central Europe.
On Friday morning, 638 refugees and migrants arrived at Piraeus Port from Lesbos. This time, the appropriate number of buses were expecting them and the refugees were carried to a migrant camp at Ioannina, in western Greece.
According to figures issued by the refugee coordinating committee on Friday morning, 46,207 refugees and migrants are on Greek soil at the moment.
