IMF Returns to Greece on January 18 for Bailout Program Review

Delia VelculescuThe International Monetary Fund (IMF) returns to Athens on January 18, represented by Delia Velculescu heading a ten member staff, in order to review the progress of the implementation of Greece’s bailout program.
According to Greek media, the Fund officials aim to find a solution for the social security fund reforms. There are many differences between the Greek negotiating team and the IMF regarding the issue.
The IMF representatives want to complete the first evaluation of the program. The outcome of the negotiations will determine whether the Fund will contribute financially to Greece’s bailout program or not.
So far, the financial participation of the Fund is in the air. Conditions set by the IMF have not been met and the Greek government has expressed displeasure over certain views of the IMF. However, when Athens signed the bailout agreement in July, the participation of the IMF – on an advisory level at least – was part of the deal.
