Two years ago, Greek London-based lawyer; Joanne Skoulikas quit her successful job as a corporate lawyer to find a way to help the country’s economy, by promoting startup companies, female entrepreneurship, as well as tech and design businesses. She believed that small and local creative businesses are the key to a revived Mediterranean economy. In turn, she decided to find a way to support those types of businesses in Greece and the surrounding areas, helping them overcome the obstacles presented by the crisis.
As a result the website thesteki.com was created. “Steki” is the Greek word for a “hangout” – where friends get to catch up and share new stories. The website helps people make friends and share stories – while focusing on outstanding Greek design and designers.
The team behind thesteki.com curate the designers and products for promotion on the website, while sharing the designers’ stories and inspirations, as well as the materials and techniques they used. In turn the website’s readers can buy the designers’ work through its official curated store.
Thesteki.com helps small businesses in tough economies to survive, but also to grow.
