Protests During First Day of Thessaloniki International Fair

Protests Accompany First Day of ThessalonikiSaturday September 5 marks the first day of this year’s Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) — one of Greece’s biggest commercial exhibits — where a number of organizations demonstrated on the streets of Thessaloniki, Northern Greece.
In the early evening three different groups began marching in the streets in protest of the austerity measures and reforms of the third Greek bailout. The TIF displays products and companies from various sectors and attracts thousands of visitors each year. Last year the fair was attended by 255,000 people. This year’s fair ends on September 13.
Among the organizations and groups that took to the streets of Thessaloniki, were the Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDI) and the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE).
The All Workers Militant Front (PAME) also with  the Greek Communist Party’s (KKE) leader Dimitris Koutsoumpas will participate in the march.
Popular Unity leader Panagiotis Lafazanis also took part in the marches.
