ECB Approves Additional Liquidity for Greek Banks

ecb-plagiaThe European Central Bank on Thursday approved additional emergency finance for Greek banks raising the sum earmarked through the Emergency Liquidity Assistance (ELA) to 65 billion euros.
In a meeting on Thursday, ECB extended for one week its liquidity assistance through ELA to give Greece the amount it had requested, a source said, while another source said that the cap of emergency liquidity offered through ELA was raised by 5 billion euros to 65 billion euros.
The governing council of ECB meets again on February 18, two days after the Eurogroup meeting of February 16. ELA provision in critical for Greek banks as the ECB cancelled acceptance of Greek bonds last week.
