SYRIZA MP Refusing Comments on Special Court for Greek Presidential Candidate [Video]

Members of Lucas Papademos’ administration, from November 2011 to May 2012, including Greek presidential candidate Stavros Dimas, will face a Parliamentary Examination Committee or even a Special Court, said on Tuesday, while speaking on Greek TV, main opposition SYRIZA MP Alexis Mitropoulos.

“It was when Mr. Dimas was Minister of the Papademos administration that the Memorandum texts for the surrender of the country’s sovereignty passed. While he was Minister occurred the deepening of the internal devaluation that led to pension cuts,” underlined yesterday the SYRIZA MP, adding that Former Prime Minister George Papandreou will also have to answer for “Kastelorizo,” where he announced the first Memorandum.

It should be noted that Dimas was the Greece’s Foreign Minister in Papademos’ administration.

Today, though, and after the strong reaction his statements caused, especially from coalition government partner PASOK, Mitropoulos explained that he never referred to a Special Court for Dimas. “I was referring to two different periods, not one,” he argued eariler today in an interview to Greek radio. According to Mitropoulos, one of those was when Papandreou proclaimed the country’s accession to the first Memorandum from Kastelorizo and the second one was during Papadimos’ administration when the country signed the commitments to its lenders. “They undertook such commitments that no future government, either under (current Prime Minister) Antonis Samaras or under (SYRIZA leader) Alexis Tsipras or anyone else, could escape without a hard fight. And I said that these two periods might be the subject of a more detailed investigation by a Parliamentary Examination Committee,” Mitropoulos said.
