International Organ Festival Travels From Greece to Palestine and Israel

Festival organo Terra SantaAn International music event will be held for the first time in both Palestine and Israel with the hope of expanding, in the near future, to other countries such as Lebanon and Syria. The music event, entitled “Terra Sancta Organ Festival,” was also held on the Greek island of Rhodes at the end of September 2014 and it is scheduled to take place from November 5 to 28 in Nazareth, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Emmaus and Jaffa.
In the Middle East, the sound of the organ is correlated with Christianity. The international organ festival which will take place in the Holy Land represents the recreation and cultural aspect of the organ but also the public manifestation of Christianity.
Therefore, the Custody of the Holy Land, whose goal is to support Christians, approved the organization of an event such as Terra Sancta Organ Festival.
Muslims, Jews and Christians are all welcome to attend, as well as pilgrims and tourists who are interested in music. “Our hope is that, starting from Israel, Palestine and Greece, the festival will, in future years, reach other places where the Custody of the Holy Land has a presence: Jordan, Lebanon, Cyprus, Egypt and Syria. Inshallah (God Willing),” said the Franciscans.
The festival will welcome internationally acclaimed organists and artists to its stage such as American Mark Pacoe and Germans Ulrich Pakusch and Axel Flierl. Italian organist Eugenio Maria Fagiani will perform on the Holy Land’s oldest organ in the church of St. Peter in Jaffa. Greek pochi-organist Chris Paraskevopoulos, who worked as the artistic director of the event which took place on the Greek island of Rhodes, will also perform.
