Sikhs of Athens Offer Free Food to All

The Sikhs in Athens believe in one God, protect their heart from fear and evil, they are loyal to their partner, they are vegetarian and every Sunday they attend liturgy in a former warehouse in Piraeus.
Ntalzin is from India, he is thirty years old and speaks Greek fluently. He has lived in Crete working as a diver somewhere in Sitia and for the last two years has been living in Athens. “The warehouse in Piraeus is open all day and night but on Sunday all the Sikhs gather for the liturgy. First we listen to the writings that the guru is reading, we pray and then go downstairs and eat together for free. This is not only for Sikhs. Anyone who comes will be offered food 24/7,” says Ntalzin.
Men and women stand up and approach a man sitting in front of the priest dressed in white. They kneel and pray and the priest places something in their hands. The faithful eat it and continue to pray. “This is like Greek halva. It is made with butter, flour and sugar. Eating it, you get the power to continue your prayers. It is very energizing. Note that they stretch both hands to the priest since it is forbidden to take something with only one hand. God extends both hands to people. People should be doing the same with each other,” continued Ntalzin.
