Troika in Athens Before the End of January

troika typesAccording to European Commission spokesman Olivier Bailly, Troika inspectors will return to Athens, Greece, before the end of January.
As reported by Bailly during a press conference on Thursday, January 16, discussions between the Greek government and the representatives of Greece’s foreign creditors are continuing, however he revealed that no specific date has been set for the Troika’s visit to Athens.
The European Commission spokesman denied allegations in the Greek media that the Troika would be in Athens on January 20 or 22.
Meanwhile, the European Union statistical service, Eurostat, on Thursday released data showing  that in December, Greece had negative inflation of 1.8 %, which is the lowest among European Union members. At the same time, inflation in the European Union has decreased, reaching 0.8%  in December 2013, according to the same figures.
The Troika, which is insisting on more reforms, will examine the finances of the country as also its financial progress. Troika officials have reported that they will proceed with a further debt haircut only if Greece meets its obligations towards its lenders. The delayed overhaul of the civil service, lagging tax collection targets and the slow-moving privatization drive are still sticking points.
