Greek police Fear Further Terrorist Attacks

terrorist attack
Greek police are concerned about the potential for further attacks similar to that carried out against the German Ambassador’s residence last Monday. It is also reported that members of the Greek Special Anti Terrorist Unit (EKAM) will be placed on rooftops and other locations close to potential targets.
There is concern in the government at this development, with statements by the Minister of Public Order, Nikos Dendias, along with a new risk assessment by the police in order to prioritize resources and to identify potential targets.
It is likely that the police response will include increasingly visible patrols by armed officers close to potential targets and a policy of more regular stop and search of pedestrians and vehicles. Furthermore, the number of motorcycle patrols (DIAS) have been increased from 25 to 40 and will be active from midnight to 5am.
The list of potential targets includes embassies, the residences of diplomats and other officials, public buildings, ministries, government and police agencies and diplomatic missions. EKAM will be placing surveillance equipment around buildings that are believed to be at risk.
Officers of the Hellenic Police said that during the attack on the residence of the German Ambassador, the guard who was in a protected bulletproof cubicle, did not react immediately as he feared for his safety.
