Despite wildly varying estimates of whether Greece needs additional aid or is recovering, the country’s economic condition was not on the agenda of talks between Eurozone ministers in Lithuania on Sept. 13, the bloc’s chairman, Jeroen Dijsselbloem said. He added that Greece will be the center of talks in October or November.
Dijsselbloem said that any discussion about a third bailout for Greece, which is surviving on $325 billion in two rescue packages from the Troika of the European Union-International Monetary Fund-European Central Bank (EU-IMF-ECB) wouldn’t be held until next year.
Despite that, Greek Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras was in Vilnius and was expected to update his peers on positive developments in Greece’s efforts to meet fiscal adjustment targets including signs that the country is on track to record a primary surplus this year although the IMF estimated there is a hole of $11-$14 billion that needs to be filled either with revenues or more austerity measures that Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has vowed to avoid.
