220px-Jorgo_Chatzimarkakis_2006On the occasion of German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble’s visit to Athens, Jorgo Chatzimarkakis made a series of statements to the US business news channel CNBC as well as to Greek media.
Chatzimarkakis  is a German politician of Greek descent, Member of the European Parliament with the Free Democratic Party of Germany (part of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe).
Chatzimarkakis stressed that there is the sense that Schäuble is caressing Greece having in mind the upcoming general elections in Germany.
He underlined the burden posed by austerity to society and economy. OECD data show that a million of workplaces were lost in Greece while more than half a million new workplaces were created in Germany. He stressed that the austerity program is unfair in Greece, adding that in Spain a 100 billion euros program is being applied with no memorandum at all. He finally added that if Schäuble really wants to help Greece, then Germany should give back the money of the war loan to the Development Fund.
