St. Andrew's Cross Heading For Russia

1271931_h0620542.limghandlerFor the first time Saint Andrews’ Cross will be transferred –  upon the approval of the Holy Synod – outside Patras and then to Russia, on the occasion of the celebrations for the anniversary of 1025 years of the baptism of Ross in the Dnieper River.
The mission’s departure will begin on July 11, with a special flight from the Araxos Airport of Patras, while the cross will return to Patras on Aug. 2.
Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Patras, who will accompany the cross during its transportation to Russia, is in constant communication with the Church of Russia and the Foundation Apostle Andrew,  to resolve all procedural matters.
The cross will be firstly welcomed in Saint Petersburg and then transferred to Moscow.  Then it will be transferred, escorted by the Patriarch of Moscow and the heads of the local Orthodox churches, to Kiev, Ukraine and to Minsk, Belarus before coming back to Patras.
In the Diocese of Patras, it’s estimated that the transfer of the cross to Russia will be the beginning of a spiritual and wider cooperation between the Russian Orthodox country and the city of Patras.
