Austrians Pick Greece For Vacations

summerGreece seems to have this year the largest increase in bookings of Austrians for holidays, an increase of more than 20 percent, several Austrian newspapers have reported.

The popular newspaper Kronen Zeitung cites an article headlined Greece Remains In First Place for a Holiday” noting that despite the economic turbulence, Greece remains for Austrians  “The absolute number one,” as a tourist destination by plane.

The front page in the newspaper Der Standard also highlights Greece’s tourism with a story, Trends in Holiday – Greece Recording Highest Increase, which underlined that Greece this year presents a high rise and after a significant drop in the overnight stays in 2011 and 2012, Austrian tour operators talk of a rise in bookings to Greek destinations.

It is also noted that Greece with 3,054 islands, located this year in top destinations not only for those traveling privately, but those who have made reservations through travel agencies in recent weeks.

The title of Wiener Zeitung Austrians Go Massively in Greece is also characteristic while the journal presents the results of the poll for the preferences of Austrians stressing that Greece ranks first with 12% of  respondents be intending to visit this year.

The sales chief of the travel agency Gulet, who belongs to TUI, Reinhardt Grubhofer, said that Greece is the obvious winner of this summer, referring to Greece’s increase in bookings.
