Greek Tax Workers Set 2-Day Strike

tax officeWith Greeks facing a June 30 deadline – already extended – to file their tax returns, and which can only be done online, tax office workers said they would walk off their jobs on June 27-28 and not be available to hand out forms or answer questions from taxpayers.
The government said it would extend the filing deadline to July 1 to give taxpayers an extra day.
The strike was called by the unions representing the workers as part of yet another work action against austerity measures being imposed by the government. None of the strikes or protests over the last three years has worked as pay cuts, tax hikes and slashed pensions roll on unabated.
The workers said they would also hold a rally the morning of June 27 but those have all been ignored by the government and have dwindled down to a relative handful of dissenters with most Greeks having given up protesting and accepting austerity is here to stay.
