Another Caretta-Caretta Turtle Found Dead

______1.limghandlerAnother dead Caretta-Caretta sea turtle, the fourth within June, was  spotted on the morning of June 25 by a fisherman in Amvrakikos bay. According to port officials, it is difficult to determine whether the mammal’s death was due to injury or natural causes.
The Management Body of the Amvrakikos Wetlands, calls for fishermen and citizens’ awareness when they come across injured loggerhead sea turtles, to immediately inform the bodies responsible.
The Caretta Caretta is a species still living in the Mediterranean and it is possible to meet it there since it spawns along the beaches of the Laganas Gulf on Zakynthos. The loggerhead sea turtle always spawns on the same beach where it was born and for this reason it is important to keep the conditions for the nests survival in order to avoid the species  extinction. The nesting period is from June to August, months in which the females reach the beach to spawn.
However, unfortunately only a small percentage is going to survive since there are many obstacles all around the beach, lights coming from restaurants and pubs that disorientate the young turtles.
Once there is still danger in the waters there, only one out of one thousand grows up.
