Anastasiades, Eroglu Talk Turkey At Dinner

Anastasiadis_DipnoCypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and his Turkish Cypriot counterpart Dervis Eroglu informally talked about the long-stalled reunification talks for the island that’s been divided since a Turkish invasion in 1973, during a dinner hosted by the special adviser of the UN General Secretary, Alexander Downer.
In a brief statement after dinner, Downer said it was a  good night and that the dinner went very well. “This was a new opportunity for the leaders of both communities to meet after the election of Mr Anastasiadis” he added. He also welcomed the presence of their wives. There was no report of any progress at all beyond small talk.
Downer stressed that Anastasiades and Eroglu expressed “satisfaction with this first opportunity to meet and remain committed to the peace process, aiming at giving a solution that is acceptable to both communities, ensuring a bright future for all the Cypriot people. ” It was similar to the statements he’s been giving for years without any resolution.
