Andros Comes To The Golden Hall

113138The commercial center Golden Hall in Greece aims to promote Greek tourism by hosting a representative sample of culture, tradition, seamanship and protection of the environment from the island of Andros.
In collaboration with the Municipality of Andros, there will be exhibitions and presentations at the ground and first floor of the commercial center from May 17-June 1.
The Goulandris Foundation will be presenting its exhibition and publishing activity of the last 34 years, as well as the sculpture exhibition Routes in the Sculpture of the 20th Century, with works from the foundation’s collection.
Kydonieos P. & M. Foundation in Andros will present sculptures and painting of the exhibitions of the established art institution PLOES, under the title Realism’s Riddles. This is a tribute to newer and modern interpretations of post-war Greek art through selected works of important and emerging artists.
The Museum of Folklore and Christian Art, located on the site of Hora’s old ice house in Andros, has been renovated by the museum’s founders Marios Vassilopoulos and Irini Mantzavelaki-Vassilopoulou to house the island’s collections. The Kaireios Library of Andros will present the important publishing and cultural work that it has created during its function on the island.
The environmental program Life, which helps to strengthen and protect Andros’ biodiversity, will be at Golden Hall to give a lesson of taking care of the environment. The Andros Maritime Museum will present part of its exhibits that include traditional costumes of the island, boat effigies, maritime documents, objects of ships, photographs, watercolors and lithographs.
Those visiting the exhibitions and presentations will watch a historical flashback to Andros’ past through the illustration of archeological sites and Byzantine monuments, into the future through the presentation of the Digital Museum that is getting prepared on the island.
The tourist stand, which will be at the entrance, will host the island’s photographic imprinting, the paths, the beaches, as well as the flavors of Andros, giving visitors the opportunity to navigate themselves through the entire island, via printed and electronic material distributed during the exhibition.
