Greek Scientists Tackle Smart Tumors

cancer225-10Cancer is not just one disease. There are hundreds, possibly thousands, of cancer types, much more complex than we could even imagine. Now dealing with this “smart enemy” requires a research activity within the framework of coordinated teams of doctors, molecular biologists, physicists, and even IT staff.
Illuminating The Dark: Innovative Strategies for Intelligent Tumors was the theme of the 19th Panhellenic Congress of Clinical Oncology and the 13th Congress of Radiation Oncology, jointly organized for the first time this year by the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology (HeSMO) and the Hellenic Society of Radiation Oncology (HSRO).
In a joint statement, representatives of the organizing operators underlined the intense pressures over fiscal discipline, which result in holding back the scientific development. They added that by supporting innovations in the oncology sector, should be translated into profit for the prevention and treatment of cancer and, furthermore, lead to specialized and effective treatment.
The forum was attended by many distinguished medical scientists from all hospitals throughout Greece and from major research centers from abroad, as well. Guests included Professor of Surgery at Leiden University  in the Netherlands and ECCO President Εuropean Cancer Organization), C. Van de Velde along with Mr. Richard Sullivan, Professor of Cancer and World Health Policy.
