Olympiakos clinched a record 40th Greek league championship by beating AEK Athens 3-0 at home Sunday.
Central defender Avraam Papadopoulos, playing only his second game since injuring his knee in June 2012, scored in the 14th and 56th minutes. He had last scored in January 2010, also against AEK. Djamel Abdoun made it 3-0 on Sunday in the 62nd minute.
The win, achieved on the 88th anniversary of the club’s founding, gave Olympiakos an unassailable 16-point lead over second-place Asteras with five rounds to play.
AEK, a former powerhouse facing its worst league season and in deep financial trouble, is in the relegation zone.
