Pupils Paint for Olympus

paintingThe courtyard of the tobacco Station of Katerini, on the third day of the international festival Grito Rock-Thessaloniki Olympus 2013, which was organized by the Volunteer Action Group Pieria and Doctors of the World, hosted a special and unique event.
Pupils from primary schools created an enormous painting. It was created to be sent to 300 cities of 30 countries around the world promoting the request for the support of the direct boundaries extending of the National Park of Mount Olympus and its direct accession in UNESCO’s World Heritage.
The painting consists of 300 squares, each of which reflects a city participating in the festival. Inside each square, every child has created his own drawing marking his message for Olympus.
Elias Tsolakidis from the Voluntary Action Group of Pieria, spoke to ANA-MPA, and said: “The aim of our group is to digitize the painting and send it to 300 cities that will participate in the voting via the Internet, supporting the request for the support of the direct boundaries extending of the National Park of Mount Olympus and its direct accession in UNESCO’s World Heritage. We are trying to collect signatures in order for the Ministry of Culture to start the process of the candidacy of Olympus.” Tsolakidis noted that this is a way to teach children the importance of participating in activities and sharing responsibility for a good cause.
