According to “Globe and Mail“, Greek- Canadian Liberal MP Jim Karygiannis is accused of speeding up the passage of famous Greek singer Katerina Stanisi and her band to Toronto without having the necessary credentials.
Katerina Stanisi traveled in the middle of February to give a performance in Toronto. The famous singer and her five musicians went to Canada without the necessary permission papers and MP Jim Karygiannis assisted them to enter the country. Karygiannis invited the famous singer to sing at his father memorial, according to an official report.
Officials of the Canada Border Services argue that Karygiannis advised the organizer of the concert not to reveal the real reason for their visit, so they could enter the country.
The five musicians faced troubles at customs. First, they claimed they did not know each other and came to see different people. In fact, Stanisi was travelling with her brother Michail, as well as three other musicians, Ioannis Dimou, Vasilios Saganas and Dimitrios Bampalis.
In an interview, Karygiannis refused to comment more on the issue, citing civil rights. “I help many people come to Canada,” he said.
Finally the event was normally held with the participation of the five musicians since federal officials decided that the five musicians had arrived in Canada in good faith and apologized for their behavior. The ticket for the event was $ 95.
