Albanians Protest Visa Problems

images93Albanians who live in Greece, angry over passport problems, protested outside their consulate in Thessaloniki. The six-month-old problem is that on their passports the city as well as the country of origin of the holder are both written in Albanian symbols as pronounced in the Albanian language, and not according to their international designation and English writing.
Greece is requesting the declaration of toponyms to be done in accordance with the European provisions over the translation of official travel documents. The problem mainly affects young Albanian children born in Greece, whose passports have both a Greek town as their birthplace and Greece as their country of birth, but translated into Albanian.
That means they are trapped in Greece and can’t even visit Albania or have a visa affixed in other documents of theirs. So, they are obligated to deposit their passport to the Greek authorities.
