Papadopoulou Ambassador to the Antarctic

09c650832b1876bf0674e708c4706210-100x100Bella Papadopoulou, 24, is going to make a unique journey to the Antarctic, on Feb. 28. The young woman will travel as one of the 30 selected members of Robert Swan’s International Antarctic Expedition 2013 (pp. polar explorer) and the project 2041 Antarctic Youth Ambassador.

“There I will become, through the organization of  2041, official ambassador of the Antarctic. When I return I am going to write a book about the problems of this continent and how our future will be if we do not change in time some of our habits,” the young activist told the Greek news agency  ANA/MPA.

Papadopoulou is an environmental journalist who will be a symbolic Antarctic Youth Ambassador and help to protect the Antarctic and the penguins.

She was born to Polish parents in Sweden, and loves visiting Greece every summer thanks to her Greek stepfather. She decided to study journalism at the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki. Initially she worked as a journalist in Thessaloniki, later traveled to Vietnam, where she taught English to poor children, then to the Fiji islands and at present in Brazil.

She has a restless spirit and is environmentally sensitized. As part of her activities, she is traveling to the frozen continent. The Antarctic includes 90 percent of the earth’s ice and a 70 percent of our planet’s freshwater. The Antarctica Project is urgent, since if ice continues melting, in a few years we will all have to move,”she noted.

To achieve her goals, Papadopoulou has created the website ww.helpmeprotectantarctica.com. On this page you can find detailed information of the Antarctica Project, as well as support the mission  financially by buying several small items with penguins.
