Chris Nitsopoylos chases cyclones to try to record their effect. For some 17 years he has managed to be at the heart of any severe storm that has hit the Queensland.
He and his partner Travis Robertson have created the OZ Cyclone Chasers . Based in Townsville of Queensland they ‘run to get into any severe thunderstorms and record it from inside.
Born in northern Greece, Nitsopoylos emigrated to Australia in childhood. His passion for the study of storms began when a severe hail storm ruined his family home in Sydney in 1988, without any warning. “We want to learn exactly how the storms are caused so that we can predict with greater accuracy,” he said.
Although not a meteorologist, he is working with the Meteorological Service of Australia. “We have recorded many cyclones and storms and all the elements are given in meteorological service,” he said.
