Farmers on Strike Again

ÁÃÑÏÔÅÓ ÓÅÑÑÙÍGreek farmers are taking to the streets in tractors once again to protest against new tax regulations they said would hurt their business. This second round of a track domino strike has undoubtedly caused great concern at the Maximou Mansion as it will once again split the country.
Many farmers from Hemathia, lined up today on the Kouloura provincial road on Egnatia Road, once again determined to take their tractors to the streets.
They are also threatening to keep the road blocked indefinitely, interrupting the connection of Central and Western Macedonia, as well as the railway that links Thessaloniki to Veria, in protest of the new tax implemented.
They argue they have not been paid for five months for the peach production they gave to industries, and have asked to meet with the Minister of Rural Development and Food to discuss a number of issues, otherwise they will move to roadblocks. In Thessaly farmers are warning of another round of protests next week.
