Three Dead Migrants Found Off Chios

EvrosGreece’s Coast Guard said the bodies of three would-be migrants were been retrieved in the waters off the eastern Aegean island of Chios as people trying to sneak into Greece by water after the erection of a fence along the Turkish border continued.
Two of the bodies were found by fishermen early in the morning of Jan. 13 and the third early in the afternoon by a coast guard vessel. All three were men, who were presumably trying to cross into Greece from nearby Turkey.
A Coast Guard spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the record to media, confirmed that an autopsy on the first two bodies showed they had drowned. In December, 18 immigrants from Iraq drowned when their vessel sank off the island of Lesbos, further north and close to Turkey.
