Vienna Charter Brings People Together

Greek Deputy Mayor of the Austrian capital, Maria Vassilakou, accompanied by the Executive City Councilor for Integration, Sandra Frauenberger, presented the Vienna Charter which fosters respect, good neighborly relations in the city and helps people find common grounds.

During the presentation Vasilakou said: “Social cohesion and a climate of respect are particularly important at a time when we all face new challenges. It is therefore crucial how we interact with each other in everyday life. Good neighborly relations cannot be enacted by law. The people who live in Vienna need to come to an understanding and formulate mutually acceptable solutions.

The Vienna Charter provides the framework for good neighborly relations, actively promotes dialogue among the citizens and builds solidarity. The Vienna Charter is an instrument of direct democracy and responds to a new understanding of politics,” she added.

Vienna, which is known for having the highest quality of living worldwide, is already the best practical example for all big cities. Countries such as France, Germany and Italy have already showed interest in adopting the Vienna Charter.
