Cretan Cops Face Gun, Drug Charges

Three police officers from Lasithi and Heraklion on Crete, one of whom is a senior officer, are facing gun and drug trafficking charges in an investigation that has implicated 15 others, media reports said.
Among them reportedly are Greeks from wealthy families of Crete, as well as immigrants. According to reports, the investigation has uncovered two gangs involved in hashish agriculture cases as well as gun dealings in the mountainside of Rethumno, Lasithi and Heraklion.
The alleged culprits said to be deeply involved in gun and drug trafficking, but Greece’s intelligence service has been said to be recording the suspects phone contacts since the beginning of the summer, when police traced the drug growing, which led them to the gun running. Crete has a well-known gun culture.
