Victoria Grants Pallaconians $20,000

The Victorian Government in its effort to support and maintain multicultural community groups, has granted the Pallaconian Brotherhood Leonidas $20,000 to replace a broken down heating and cooling system at its headquarters in Brunswick.

The Pallaconian Brotherhood of Melbourne, and Victoria Leonidas, established in 1961, was formed in order to bring together all Australians who trace their descent from Laconia.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship Nicholas Kotsiras announced grants of more than $500,000 in community infrastructure that will support 13 multicultural community organizations across Victoria to help them maintain their cultural heritage, including the Pallaconian Brotherhood.

“The Victorian Coalition Government is committed to working with community organizations to preserve our unique multicultural legacy, and to develop and enhance community infrastructure,” Kotsiras said. The Cultural Precincts and Community Infrastructure Fund is a $12 million investment by the Coalition Government over four years to enhance cultural precincts and community facilities in Victoria and secure the longevity of Victoria’s important community assets.

Kotsiras said that, “These organizations, clubs and associations are the lifeblood of our multicultural community. They represent, unite and support their members, and contribute enormously to a strong, cohesive and engaged multicultural Victoria”.
