Dormant Greek Groups in Istanbul Suspended

Greek natives living in Istanbul have sent a report to General Directorate for Foundations which has led to the closing of services at groups which did not hold elections and calling for new ones to find leaders.

According to new legislation in Turkey, elections must be held every four years for all minority foundations. Since 2004, the groups have used changes in legislation to designate new leading members, through transparent and democratic procedures. Only three foundations, Valouklis Hospital, St. Theodoron Vlagas Community and  Church of St. Kiriaki Kontoskaliou have not applied the law.
