Greek Cypriot Police Officers Detained in Buffer Zone

Three Greek Cypriot police officers were detained by Turkish troops yesterday after they entered the buffer zone near the village of Dhali while chasing a Turkish Cypriot vehicle whose driver failed to stop for a check.
The incident happened at 11.30am, police said.
The officers, two in a patrol car and one on a motorcycle, had been chasing a Turkish Cypriot vehicle whose driver refused to stop for a check on Yiannis Groutas Avenue in Dhali.
Instead, the driver sped off towards the Turkish-occupied areas.
Reports said the driver of the vehicle was also arrested.
A police spokesman said efforts were being made for the release of the officers as soon as possible.
