Cretan Artist Bikakis Brings Down the House in Vienna

Cretan lyra virtuoso, singer and songwriter Stelios Bikakis and his eight-member band impressed a Vienna audience and members of the Greek Community in the Austrian capital during a three-hour concert at the internationally acclaimed Wiener Konzerthaus (Vienna Concert Hall).

The concert, which took place at the Mozart Hall and had the audience warmly applauding the Cretan musician and his talented co-artists, was also attended by the Greek Orthodox Metropolitan – Exarch of Hungary and Central Europe Arsenios of Austria, the Chairman of the Federation of Greek Communities of Austria Kostas Fizoglou and the President of the Macedonia Intercultural Association Charilaos Zikos.

The Cretan artist told journalists after the concert was over that he was more than impressed and happy with how his second performance in the country since 2009 was received. The concert featured traditional Cretan songs and music as well as modern songs included in the 16 albums Bikakis recorded the past years.

Young pianist Andras Bikakis and the accompanying orchestra were also well received by the audience. The band consists of Elias Katsavidis (lauto, bouzouki, vocals), Nikos Stathakis (violin), Antonis Zacharakis (drums), George Troilos (guitar), Manolis Piteris (clarinet, flute, saxophone), Dimitris Kallergis (keyboards) and Panajiotis Chatzimichailidis (electric guitar).
